From the very beginning, the founders of the OCAD Student Press saw a great deal of potential in the amount of interesting and relevant design research being done in this institution. Every year OCAD students produce amazing projects that unfortunately, for the most part, fail to be recorded or archived in any tangible format. After watching this trend repeated throughout the years, it became clear that this work and research needed to be showcased and archived in the form of an annual publication. This publication would eventually become what is known today as the Shift series.

Through this ongoing annual publication, the OCAD Student Press is now on a mission to tap into the art and design-based thinking being explored everyday at our institution. What began first as a collaborative collection of Environmental Design and Industrial Design thesis work eventually opened up to students from all design disciplines. Today we are an integral part of the Ontario College of Art & Design with our publications now being widely read both within and outside of the school. Our publications are written, directed and designed by students, for students, with the support of students, and this is how we like it.

The mission of the OCAD Student Press is simple: get good ideas out of OCAD.
